Hesse Hairdresser Turns Berlin Catwalk Inspiration into Local Salon Artistry

When owner and lead stylist Clara Bennett of Hesse’s beloved “The Copper Comb” stepped off a plane from Berlin’s Fashion Week last month, she wasn’t carrying designer luggage. Instead, she returned with a suitcase stuffed with mood boards, textured fabric swatches, and a radical new vision for small-town glamour.

Bennett, a Hesse native who grew up sweeping floors in her grandmother’s salon on Main Street, spent ten days in the German capital earlier this spring, shadowing avant-garde editorial stylists and attending private runway shows. Her mission wasn’t just a vacation—it was a research trip designed to bridge the gap between high-fashion technique and everyday Australian wearability.

“People think international trends don’t belong here,” Bennett told the Hesse Gazette on Tuesday. “But the most interesting cuts I saw in Berlin were actually the undone, lived-in ones. That’s perfect for our climate and our lifestyle.”

Since returning, Bennett has completely revamped her service menu. Gone are the rigid, over-processed looks. In their place, she now offers “runway-touch” dry cutting—a precision method that sculpts natural movement without heavy layers—and a signature “Berlin shadow” colour, a soft, dimensional depth that mimics the mood lighting of European clubs.

The local response has been immediate. Waitlists for her weekend appointments have doubled, and her weekend “Style Sessions” classes, which teach clients how to recreate editorial waves at home, sold out within hours.

“Clara’s always been forward-thinking, but this is next level,” said regular client and Hesse bakery owner, Priya Singh. “She’s showing us that you don’t need to fly to a fashion capital to feel like you just walked off a runway.”
