Hudson Global Resources Loses Labour Hire Licence in Victoria Crackdown

Victoria’s labour hire regulator has taken decisive action against global staffing firm Hudson Global Resources, cancelling its licence to operate in the state. The move comes as part of a broader enforcement push aimed at cleaning up the industry and protecting vulnerable workers from exploitation.

The Labour Hire Authority confirmed on Tuesday that it had revoked Hudson’s licence, effectively barring the company from supplying workers to Victorian businesses. While the regulator did not disclose specific details of the breaches, it cited “serious non-compliance” with the state’s Labour Hire Licensing Act. The cancellation marks one of the most significant enforcement actions since the licensing scheme was introduced in 2018.

Industry analysts say the decision sends a sharp warning to other agencies operating in Victoria’s $5 billion labour hire market. “This is a clear signal that regulators are willing to pull the trigger on major players if they fail to meet their obligations,” said one Melbourne-based business consultant. “Companies can no longer treat compliance as optional.”

Hudson Global Resources, a subsidiary of US-based Hudson Global Inc, has provided temporary staffing across sectors including administration, finance, and technology. The company now faces a ban from re-applying for a licence for at least 12 months. It can also appeal the decision to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The crackdown aligns with the Andrews government’s ongoing efforts to stamp out wage theft and sham contracting. Since the licensing regime began, more than 150 labour hire providers have been penalised or shut down. Officials urge workers who suspect dodgy practices to report them via the authority’s hotline.

Hudson Global Resources has not yet publicly commented on the revocation. The industry will be watching closely to see if further repercussions follow.
