Jharkhand Police Nabs Top Maoist Commander with ₹1 Crore Bounty

In a major breakthrough for security forces in the region, one of Jharkhand’s most wanted Maoist leaders, Misir Besra, has been arrested. The insurgent commander, who carried a staggering ₹1 crore bounty on his head, was taken into custody following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.

Besra, a key figure in the outlawed CPI (Maoist) hierarchy, is believed to have been involved in dozens of violent incidents, including ambushes on security personnel and the extortion of local businesses. His capture marks a significant setback for the Naxalite network operating in the dense forests of the state, particularly in the Santhal Pargana region.

Local police sources confirmed that the arrest was made without any exchange of fire. Acting on a tip-off, a special task force established a cordon in a remote village, where Besra was found attempting to blend in with the local populace. Besra is expected to be produced before a local court in the coming days, where authorities will seek his remand for custodial interrogation. Investigators hope to extract crucial information regarding the logistics and funding channels of the Maoist groups still active in the state.
